Chelsea usually comes to mind when people think about planning a day of gallery hopping, but you can’t go wrong roaming around Chinatown and the Lower East Side. There are tons of galleries and eateries next to each other, and let’s not forget all of the dope street art (I wrote another itinerary about that).
Start in Chinatown to see some art and grab a cup of coffee to keep warm on the walk. The galleries I like to visit are Bridget Donahue, Signs & Symbols, Freight + Volume, Galerie Perrotin, Krause Gallery, and Van Der Plas. The rotating exhibits ensure that there is always something new and interesting to see.
End your gallery hopping at Patacon Pisao and try the patacon burger – it’s my favorite Venezuelan dish. If you need to use the bathroom, check out Essex Market. But beware, you’ll need to buy something in order to get the bathroom code (unless you’re slick and just wait outside the bathroom for somebody to come out).
Hint: a beer is a nice way to end your outing. Make sure to check each gallery beforehand in case appointments are needed. Enjoy!
